Preventive Care Through Ayurveda
Corona Virus has created a lot of fear and anxiety all over the world since its outbreak at the start of the year. There have been 98,437 confirmed cases all over the globe until now. The World Health Organisation has already declared the situation as a public health emergency with the global death toll crossing 3000 already.
Corona Viruses is a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory diseases. COVID-19 is a new strain (nCoV) viral infection that has not been previously identified in humans
Common signs of COVID-19 include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death
The purpose of Ayurveda is to prevent the disease by preserving good health and then treatment of disease. Ayurveda believes in prevention of disease with a holistic lifestyle, potent herbs and therapies.
Ayurveda advises that the easiest way to save yourself from catching COVID-19 infection is by boosting your immunity. The immune system is the body's defence against infectious organisms called Vyadhikshamatva. The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. The antibodies recognize an antigen and lock onto it but they are not capable of destroying it without help. Ayurveda advises various herbs and therapies for strengthening immunity.
- Maintain personal hygiene
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Avoid non-essential travel abroad
- Wash hands for minimum 20 seconds with Neem Soap
- Use a mask (preferably N95) in crowded places
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands
- Eat light healthy food which is easily digestible. Properly cooked hot meals
- Avoid ice creams & cold things
- Use 60% alcohol-based hand sanitiser
1 Sip warm boiled water or green tea throughout the day.
2 Abhyanga or Self Body Massage with medicated oil every morning, followed by a warm water bath with Neem soap increases body strength.
3 Herbal tea: Add one teaspoon of Yashtimadhu/mulethi (Liquorice) powder and 4drops of Herbostra Bitters to your Green tea. Stir well and drink it.
4 Tulsi Decoction: Boil 10 Tulsi (Basil) leaves in one litre of water with Shunthi, Marich, Pippali (2gms each). Boil till it reduces to half. Filter it. Add 2 drops of Herbostra Bitters and drink it.
5 Take powder of Tulsi (Basil), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Lasun (Garlic), Yasthimadhu (Liquorice), Shigru Patra (Moringa) in equal quantity. Mix it well. Take 5 grams of the mixture two times per day with warm water.
6 Store water in Copper vessel.
7 Shadang Pani:
Ingredients
- Mustak (Nut Grass) – Cyperus Rotundus
- Pitpapra – Fumaria Indica
- Ushira (Khas) – Vetiveria Zizanioides
- Rakta Chandan (Red Sandalwood) – Pterocarpus Santalinus
- Netrabala – Pavonia Odorata
- Shunthi (Dried Ginger) – Zingiber Officinale
Take all the ingredients in equal quantity and mix it well. Take 10gms of the mixture and boil it with 1 litre of water and reduce it to half. Filter it and drink warm.
8 Samshamani Vati: Take two tablets twice a day with warm water.
9 Adulsa Decoction: Make a decoction of 5 Adulsa (Adhatoda vasica) leaves, 5 Black raisins and 1 teaspoon of Turmeric. Boil all ingredients in 500ml of water. Reduce it to half. Filter it. Add 4 drops of Herbostra Bitters and stir it. Drink lukewarm. Can add honey for taste.
